June 30th ~ This Day in History video by History.com ~ 1936 : Gone with the Wind published : Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind, one of the best-selling novels of all time was published on the 30th June 1936. Margaret Mitchell was forced to quit her job as a reporter at the Atlanta Journal in 1926, to recover from a series of physical injuries. With a lot of time on her hands, she grew restless, and started telling the story of an Atlanta belle named Pansy O’Hara on her Remington typewriter, in a cramped one-bedroom apartment with her husband.
