ABOUT MAY

May is the 5th month of the year in the Gregorian and Julian Calendars, and one of seven months of the year with 31 days. The month of May is in the season of autumn in the Southern Hemisphere, and spring in the Northern Hemisphere (Summer in Europe). May in the Southern Hemisphere is the seasonal equivalent of November in the Northern Hemisphere and vice versa.

How did the month of May get its name?.. What is the etymology?.. & What are the origins?..  The answers to these Hot Facts are presented by Teacher Lindsey from Hot Facts Girls on this YouTube video…

The MAY NAME & ORiGiN:

The month of May was named for the Greek goddess Maia, who was identified with Bona Dea, the Roman era goddess of fertility, whose festival was held in May. Roman poet Ovid provided a second etymology, in which he said the month of May was named for the maiores (Latin for elders) and that the following month of June was named for the iuniores  (Latin for young people).
