1789 : MUTiNY on The BOUNTY occurred in the South Pacific Ocean when acting-Lieutenant Fletcher Christian, and dissatisfied crewmen, seized control of the ship from their captain, Lieutenant William Bligh. They set him and 18 loyalists adrift in the ship’s open launch.

1916 : Ferruccio LAMBORGHiNi the Italian creator of Lamborghini cars was born in Cento, Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna, Italy (died in 1993 aged 76). He went from being a prisoner of war in 1945 to making tractors, to producing one of the world’s most popular range of luxury sports cars.
1923 : Wembley Stadium was opened in London, England. It was originally known as the Empire Stadium.
1924 : Dick Ayers the American comic book artist was born Richard Bache Ayers in Ossining, New York, USA (died in 2014 aged 90). He was best known as one of Jack Kirby’s inkers (1950s to 1960s), and his artwork on The Fantastic Four in some of the earliest issues of Marvel Comic, during the Silver Age of Comics.
1926 : Harper Lee the American novelist was born Nelle Harper Lee in Monroeville, Alabama, USA (died in 2016 aged 89). She was best known for writing the 1960 novel To Kill a Mockingbird, which won the 1961 Pulitzer Prize, and became a classic in modern American literature.
1937 : Saddam Hussein the dictator 5th President of Iraq was born in Al-Awja, Saladin Governorate, Iraq (executed in 2006 aged 69).
1945 : Benito MUSSOLiNi and his mistress were SHOT DEAD by Walter Audisio, a member of the Italian resistance movement, when they attempted to flee to Switzerland. The 61-year-old deposed former dictator of Italy was established by his German allies as the figurehead of the puppet government in northern Italy during the German occupation near the close of the war. As the Allies fought their way up the Italian peninsula, Mussolini didn’t want to fall into the hands of the British, the Americans, and the communist partisans, who would try him as a war criminal, so he tried to escape to a neutral country. He and his mistress made it to the Swiss border, but his guards had crossed over to the partisan side. Mussolini disguised himself in a Luftwaffe coat and helmet, to slip into Austria with some German soldiers, but was discovered by partisans and shot, their bodies were then transported by truck to Milan, where they were hung upside down and displayed publicly for revilement by the masses.
1948 : Sir TERRY PRATCHETT (OBE) the English author was born Terence David John Pratchett in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, England (died in 2015 aged 66). He is best known for his Discworld series of 41 novels. More than 85 million of his books have been sold in 37 languages. In 2009 he was knighted Sir Terry Pratchett (OBE). 1950 : Jay Leno the American talk show host was born James Douglas Muir Leno in New Rochelle, New York, USA.
1956 : JiMMY BARNES (AO) the Scottish-Australian singer was born James Dixon Swan in Glasgow, Scotland. He was originally best known as the lead singer of Cold Chisel. Jimmy is one of the best-selling Australian music artists of all time, with 14 Australian Top 40 albums with Cold Chisel and 13 charting solo albums, which included 17 No. 1 hits. 1988 : Flight attendant Clarabelle Lansing fell to her death near Maui, Hawaii when she was blown out of Aloha Airlines Flight 243 (Boeing 737) after part of the plane’s fuselage ripped open in mid-flight.
1993 : Zambia Air Force DHC-5 Buffalo crashed off the coast of Libreville, Gabon, and killed all 30 passengers, which included all the Zambia national football team.
1996 : The PORT ARTHUR MASSACRE in Tasmania occurred when Martin Bryant opened fire at the Broad Arrow Cafe in Port Arthur, and killed 35 people, leaving 23 others wounded.
2000s / 21st century history on the 28th of April
2001 : The 1st SPACE TOURiST Dennis Tito blasted off on the Soyuz TM-32 mission to the International Space Station, which he stayed at for 7 days, for a cost of $20 million.
2009 : Richard Pratt the Polish-Australian businessman died aged 74 (born in 1934). In 2008, the year prior to his death, he was Australia’s 4th richest person, with a personal fortune valued at $5.4 billion. Richard Pratt was the chairman of Visy Industries (est. 1948), one of the world’s largest privately owned paper, packaging and recycling companies, which was co-founded by his father and 2 others.
