1700s / 18th century history on the 27th of April

1791 : Samuel Morse the American inventor and painter was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts, USA (died in 1872 aged 80). After becoming a successful portrait painter, he became a co-developer of Morse code, which helped to develop the commercial use of telegraphy.

1822 : Ulysses S. Grant the 18th President of the United States was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio (died in 1885 aged 63).

1882 : Ralph WALDO Emerson best known as Waldo the American essayist and philosopher died aged 78 (born in 1803). He was also a lecturer, poet and abolitionist, leader of the transcendentalist movement, and champion of individualism. Waldo inspired many great writers.

1932 : Casey Kasem the American radio disc jockey, and voice actor was born in Detroit, Michigan (died in 2014 aged 82). He was best known for creating the American Top 40.

1944 : Cuba Gooding Sr. the American singer was born in New York City, USA (died in 2017 aged 72). He was the most successful lead singer of The Main Ingredient with 4 top 10 hit songs : “Everybody Plays the Fool” (1972), “Just Don’t Want to Be Lonely” (1974), “Happiness Is Just Around the Bend” (1974) and “Rolling Down a Mountainside” (1975).
