1868 : A patent for the invention of the Type-Writer was given to Christopher Latham, the inventor.
1887 : BANFF National Park became the Canada’s 1st national park, when The Rocky Mountains Park Act became law in Canada. Banff covers 6,641 square kilometres (2,564 sq miles) and consists of mountainous alpine terrain, glaciers/ ice fields, and coniferous forests.
1894 : The International Olympic Committee was founded at the Sorbonne, University of Paris, in France.
1894 : ALFRED KiNSEY the American entomologist and sexologist was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, USA (died in 1956 aged 62). He is best known for writing 2 books on human sexual behavior : Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (1948) and Sexual Behavior in the Human Female (1953). Alfred Kinsey founded the Institute for Sex Research at the Indiana University, which is now known as the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction. 1912 : ALAN TURiNG (OBE FRS) the English mathematician and computer scientist was born in Maida Vale, London, England (died in 1954 aged 41). He is considered to be the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence. Alan Turing is best known for decrypting secret coded German Nazi messages, made on their enigma machine in World War II. In 2014 The Imitation Game movie was released based on the 1983 biography Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges.
1940 : STUART SUTCLiFFE the Scottish painter and musician was born in Edinburgh, Scotland (died in 1962 aged 21). He was best known as the 5th Beatle, the original bass guitarist of The Beatles rock band, but he left the band to pursue a career as a painter.
1947 : Bryan Brown the Australian actor was born in Panania, New South Wales, Australia.
1961 : The ANTARCTiC TREATY SYSTEM came into force, to set aside Antarctica as a scientific preserve and ban military activity on the continent. Official website : ATS.aq
1972 : Selma Blair the American actress was born Selma Blair Beitner in Southfield, Michigan, USA.
1975 : KT Tunstall the Scottish singer-songwriter and musician was born Kate Victoria Tunstall in Edinburgh, Scotland. Official website : KTTunstall.com
1988 : Chet Faker the Australian singer-songwriter was born Nicholas James Murphy in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Official website : loverepri.se
1992 : MAFiA BOSS JOHN GOTTi aka Teflon Don was sentenced to life in prison, after being found guilty on 14 accounts of conspiracy to commit murder and racketeering. After his sentence was read in a federal courthouse in Brooklyn, hundreds of Gotti’s supporters stormed the building and overturned and smashed cars, before being forced back by police reinforcements. He was nicknamed Teflon Don after escaping unscathed from several trials during the 1980s.
1994 : NASA’s Space Station Processing Facility opened at Kennedy Space Center. It was constructed for the manufacturing and processing the modules, hardware and other equipment for the International Space Station.

2001 : Southern Peru earthquake hit coastal Peru with severe intensity, and caused a destructive tsunami, which left up to 145 people dead, and up to 2,713 injured.
2006 : Aaron Spelling the American producer and founder of Spelling Television died after a stroke, aged 83 (born in 1923).
2013 : Nik Wallenda became the first man to successfully tight rope walk across the Grand Canyon, in Arizona, USA.
2015 : Dick Van Patten the American actor died after complications from diabetes, aged 86 (born in 1928). He was best known as Tom Bradford in Eight Is Enough, television series from 1977 to 1981.
2016 : The United Kingdom voted in a referendum to leave the European Union, resulting in 52% wanting to leave.
2018 : Junior soccer team TRAPPED in CAVE in Chiang Rai Province, in Thailand. The 12 boys and their assistant coach were trapped in the flooding cave, which became an 18-day rescue operation inside Tham Luang Nang Non cave.
2021 : John McAfee the British-American computer programmer and founder of McAfee died from suicide by hanging, in Barcelona prison, aged 75 (born in 1945).
