1500s / the 16th century on the 20th of April
1535 : The SUN DOG phenomenon was observed in the sky over Stockholm, Sweden, which was depicted in the famous painting Vädersolstavlan by Urban målare, which is lost, but a copy painted by Jacob Elbfas in 1636 still exists in Storkyrkan in Stockholm (video). A sun dog is an atmospheric optical phenomenon that creates 1 or 2 bright spots on a halo surrounding the sun.
1800s / the 19th century on the 20th of April
1865 : The Secchi disk to measure water clarity was demonstrated for the first time by astronomer Angelo Secchi, aboard Pope Pius IX’s yacht.
1889 : Adolf Hitler the Führer of Nazi Germany was born in Braunau am Inn, Upper Austria, on the border of modern day Germany. He was raised in Linz, Austria, and moved to Germany at the age of 24 (died in 1945 aged 56).
1893 : Joan Miró the Spanish artist was born Joan Miró i Ferrà in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain (died in 1983 aged 90).

1912 : Bram Stoker the Irish author and creator of Count Dracula died aged 64 (born in 1847).
1949 : Jessica Lange the American actress was born in Cloquet, Minnesota, USA.
1951 : Luther Vandross the American singer-songwriter was born in Manhattan, New York City, USA (died in 2005 aged 54).
1966 : David Chalmers the Australian philosopher was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He is a Professor of Philosophy and Neural Science at New York University, and a co-director of the Center for Mind, Brain and Consciousness. 1972 : Carmen Electra the American actress was born in Sharonville, Ohio, USA.
1992 : Benny Hill the English comedian died aged 68 (born in 1924).
1998 : Air France Flight 422 crashed and killed all 53 people on board, after taking off from El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, Colombia.
1999 : Columbine High School massacre in Colorado resulted in the death of 13 people, and 24 injured, before the 2 shooters committed suicide.
2000s / the 21st century on the 20th of April
2008 : Danica Patrick won the Indy Japan 300, and became the 1st female driver in history to win an Indy car race.

2021 : LES McKEON lead singer of the Bay City Rollers died at his home aged 65. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on the 12th November 1955. Les left school aged 15 to join the band Threshold, and joined Bay City Rollers in 1973 until he was replaced in 1978. In 1975 he accidentally killed an elderly neighbour while reckless driving (fined £100 / 1 year driving ban). In 2015 he re-joined the Bay City Rollers for reunion shows.
