1886 : The Great Vancouver Fire devastated most of the newly incorporated city of Vancouver, in Canada. The fire caused at least 21 deaths, and destroyed up to 1000 buildings.
1886 : Ludwig II, the king of Bavaria died aged 40 (born in 1845). King Ludwig’s death was officially documented as a suicide by drowning, but there is speculation that Ludwig was murdered by his enemies while he attempted to escape from Berg.
1895 : The world’s first real automobile race, from Paris to Bordeaux and back, was won by Emile Levassor, after completing the 732-mile course in 49 hours.

1927 : Charles Lindbergh the aviator was given a ticker tape parade down 5th Avenue in New York City, USA.

1944 : Ban Ki-moon the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations was born in Insei, Japanese Korea, now known as Eumseong County, South Korea.
1949 : Red Symons the English-Australian musician was born in Brighton, Sussex, England. He is best known as a former member of the Australian iconic rock band Skyhooks.
1953 : Tim Allen the American actor was born Timothy Alan Dick in Denver, Colorado, USA. Official website : TimAllen.com
1966 : The Miranda rights were established, when the Supreme Court handed down its decision in Miranda v. Arizona, which established the principle that all criminal suspects must be advised of their rights before interrogation. This is now considered standard police procedure, “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can, and will, be used against you in court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be appointed to you,” as heard on TV and in movies.
1983 : Pioneer 10 became the first man-made object to leave the central Solar System, after it passed beyond Neptune’s orbit.
1986 : Ashley Olsen the American former actress was born in Sherman Oaks, California, USA, with her twin sister Mary-Kate. After their acting careers they became fashion designers, and founded a luxury fashion brand called The Row in 2012. Official website : TheRow.com
