PAC-MAN (1980)

Pac-Man is a maze arcade game developed and released by Namco. Designed by Toru Iwatani and Shigeichi Ishimura, programmed by Shigeo Funaki, and composed by Shigeichi Ishimura and Toshio Kai.

Pac-Man playing platforms : Arcade, Apple II, Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 8-bit, Commodore 64, VIC-20, IBM PC, Intellivision, TI-99/4A, ZX Spectrum, NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Gear, and Neo Geo Pocket Color.

The aim of the game is to navigate the Pac-Man through the maze eating all the Pac-Dots (to earn points) & 4 multi-colored ghosts: Blinky, Pinky, Inky & Clyde. Read more about Pac-Man at Wikipedia

A song about Pac-Man called Pac-Man Fever was released in 1981 by Buckner & Garcia, and peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA. The song sold 1.2 million copies by the end of 1982, with a total of 2.5 million sold by 2008 (video uploaded in July 2015 ~ over 10.3 million views)…

SPACE iNVADERS (1978)

Space Invaders was created by Tomohiro Nishikado, and released in 1978. It was made and sold by Taito in Japan. Space Invaders was the first fixed shooter, which became the template for the shoot ’em up genre. The aim of the game is to earn points while defeating the descending aliens with a moving laser which movers across the bottom of the screen.

Space Invaders was an instant success, grossing $3.8 billion by 1982 (net profit = $450 million) which made it the best-selling video game at the time. Many versions of the game have grossed a total of over $13 billion in total revenue (as of 2016) which makes it the highest-grossing video game of all time.  

A song about Space Invaders was written by Australian songwriters Russell Dunlop and Bruce Brown, and recorded by Player One in 1979. The song was the 7th best selling single in Australia for 1980, and spent 28 weeks on the Australian charts, peaking at number 3.

MARIO BROS. (1983)

Mario Bros was developed and published for arcades by Nintendo in 1983. The game was created by Shigeru Miyamoto. Mario Bros is featured as a mini game in all of the Super Mario Advance series, and was re-released for the Wii’s, Nintendo 3DS’s, and Wii U’s Virtual Console services, and Nintendo Switch Online. The game features Mario the Italian-American plumber and his brother Luigi, who have to defeat creatures coming from the sewers, who have to exterminate the creatures by flipping them on their backs and kicking them away.

GALAGA (1981)

Galaga arcade game was released by Namco in 1981. Galaga is a space ship shooting game sequel to Galaxian (1979). The player controls a spaceship and shoots at groups of alien ships above that attack.

TETRiS (1984)

Tetris puzzle game was released in 1984. The object of Tetris is to rotate the various shaped falling blocks to form a horizontal line without any gaps.

SONiC The HEDGEHOG (1991)

Sonic the Hedgehog game was released by Sega in 1991.

FROGGER (1981)

Frogger arcade game was released in 1981. Get the frog across the road without getting run over, and across the river without drowning.

BEJEWELED (2001)

Bejeweled puzzle game was released in 2001. Swap adjacent gems to align sets of 3 or more. A winning set is 3 or more gems. Combos and cascades award a bonus.

SiMON (1978)

Simon the electronic game of memory skill was released by Milton Bradley in 1978. Simon is a memory game that uses colors and sounds to help you remember patterns.
