1694 : The Bank of England was established as the central bank of the United Kingdom, when it was granted a royal charter, through the passage of the Tonnage Act 1694. 1890 : Vincent van Gogh shot himself in the chest with a revolver, and then walked back to the Auberge Ravoux, the place where he was a lodger, in the village of Auvers-sur-Oise, on the outskirts of Paris, in France. He was attended to by 2 doctors, but there was no surgeon available to remove the bullet. Vincent died 2 days later due to an untreated infection from the gunshot wound.
