1859 : Charles Blondin the French acrobat walked across Niagara Falls on a tightrope. He successfully crossed 340 metres (1,100 feet) across the Niagara Gorge.

1864 : Abraham Lincoln the U.S. President granted Yosemite Valley to California, for the public to use, as a resort and for recreation.

1886 : The 1st transcontinental train trip across Canada departed from Montreal, in Quebec, on its first journey to Port Moody, in British Columbia. The train arrived there within 4 days, on the 4th of July.
