1700s / 18th century history on the 29th of April
1770 : Captain JAMES COOK arrived at Botany Bay (Sydney, Australia) when he made first landfall on the mainland at Kurnell Peninsula (see Google map & street view), where he made first contact with the Gweagal aboriginal tribe. Cook originally named the bay “Stingray Bay,” but later changed it to Botany Bay.

1826 : The CENTAURUS A GALAXY was discovered by James Dunlop in Parramatta, NSW, Australia. The center of the galaxy in the constellation of Centaurus contains a supermassive black hole with a mass of 55 million solar masses. Centaurus is one of the largest constellations among the 88 listed modern constellations.
