1800s / 17th century history on the 24th of April
1885 : Annie Oakley the American sharpshooter was hired to be a part of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West.
1895 : JOSHUA SLOCUM set sail on a sloop from Boston in USA, on a journey to be the first person to sail single-handedly around the world. Three years later on the 27th June 1898, he returned to Newport in USA, after sailing 74,000 km (46,000 miles) circumnavigating the world, which went almost unnoticed, because the Spanish-American War had begun 2 months earlier, and was dominating the headlines. Eventually many American newspapers published articles about his amazing triumph, and in 1899 he published a book about his epic voyage in Sailing Alone Around the World.
