ABOUT The KUNG FURY FiLM
Kung Fury is an over-the-top action comedy short film written and directed by David Sandberg from Laser Unicorns in Sweden. The movie features arcade robots, dinosaurs, Nazis, vikings, norse gods, mutants and a super kung fu-cop called Kung Fury, all wrapped up in an 80s style action packed adventure.
The movie takes place in a variety of exotic locations; 1980s Miami, Asgard and Germany in the 1940s, and other places. With a limited budget to work with, they had to do most of the scene shooting against a green screen backdrop.
Kung Fury was funded mainly through a Kickstarter campaign, where people from all around the world showed their support for this crazy project. David worked on the film for a more than a year with almost no budget but a strong vision, with the help of friends and family. Most of the film has already been shot, but additional filming and lots of visual effects remain to be done.
The KUNG FURY PLOT
Back in the middle of the 80s, in the year 1985, Miami-Dade Police Department detective Kung Fury and his partner Dragon apprehended a red ninja in a back alley, but Dragon was sliced in half by the ninja while Kung was struck by lightning, then bitten by a cobra, which gave him extraordinary kung fu powers, enabling him to defeat his enemies. After defeating a rogue arcade video game machine robot, Kung quits the police force when he’s assigned to partner with Triceracop. Adolf Hitler a.k.a. Kung Führer enters the timeline and remotely guns down the police chief and attacks the precinct through a mobile phone.
Kung is intent to avenge the chief’s death, and gets computer whiz Hackerman to hack him back to Nazi Germany to kill Hitler. But a glitch in the system sends him back in time too far, into the Viking Age. After Kung meets the Viking babes Barbarianna and Katana, the Norse god Thor sends him to Nazi Germany.
Upon Kung’s arriva in Nazi Germany, he singlehandedly mows down hundreds of Nazi soldiers with his kung fu skills, but is gunned down by Hitler from inside his podium. Thor, Hackerman, Triceracop, the Viking Babes, and a tyrannosaurus hack into the timeline and kill the rest of the Nazi army, while the tyrannosaurus fights Hitler’s robot bird. Kung is revived back to life by Hackerman, then gives Hitler an uppercut before Thor drops his hammer on the Nazi leader and his robot bird.
On accomplishment of the mission, Kung returns to his timeline, back in 1985 Miami, where he once again battles and defeats the arcade machine robot, but notices a Swastika on the robot’s body while Hitler and his robot bird enter the timeline, vowing revenge on Kung Fury.

KUNG FURY PRODUCTiON BY DAViD SANDBERG @ LASER UNiCORNS
David Sandberg is the Swedish filmmaker behind the creation of Kung Fury. David has also directed music videos and television commercials, which he quit in 2012, to focus on writing the script for this action comedy film, which was inspired by action films of the 80s. He began producing and shooting the movie footage with his friends, with a budget of US$5000, creating the first film trailer.
David Sandberg began a Kickstarter campaign in 2013 to crowdfund the film’s production with a target goal of US$200,000, to produce a 30 minute version of the film, so it could be streamed online for free. An additional goal was set to $1 million to rewrite the story into a full-length feature, with the possibility of attracting a distribution deal.
Most of the raw footage over green screen has been filmed using a Canon EOS 5D camera and a Sony FS700 camcorder, but the additional funding was required for post-production.
The very successful Kickstarter project ended on the 25th January 2014, with $630,019 in total pledged by 17,713 backers.
