Solar eclipse of April 29, 2014 on Wikipedia 

The annular solar eclipse will occur on the 29th April  2014. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, obscuring the image of the Sun totally or partly for the viewer on Earth. An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon’s apparent diameter is smaller than the Sun’s, blocking most of the Sun’s light, which causes the Sun to look like an annulus (ring). An annular eclipse appears as a partial eclipse over a region of the Earth up to thousands of kilometres wide. The center of the moon’s shadow will miss the south Pole of the Earth, but the partial eclipse will be visible from parts of Antarctica and Australia.

The Virtual Telescope Project : Live telecast 29 April 2014: Partial Solar Eclipse (YouTube live feed video) by Gian Masi ~ The Sun offered a very rare, non-central annular eclipse, which was visible as such from a small patch in Antarctica. As a spectacular partial eclipse, it was visible from part of Australia, at sunset. The Virtual Telescope Project was asked by many people to plan something, also because April is Global Astronomy Month, so they wanted to meet that request, after the amazing success of the similar initiative for the recent total lunar eclipse.
They had the idea to look for collaborators willing to join this international effort and a few answered, and they decided to go!
