1913 : First successful ascent of Mt. McKinley (6,144 metres / 20,320 feet), led by Hudson Stuck, an Alaskan missionary. Mt. McKinley is the highest point on the American continent. Hudson Stuck set out from Fairbanks with 3 companions in March. Their journey was made challenging by difficult weather and a fire at one of their camps, which destroyed food and supplies.

1917 : Dean Martin the American singer and actor was born Dino Paul Crocetti in Steubenville, Ohio, USA (died in 1995 aged 78).

1958 : Prince the American musician was born Prince Rogers Nelson in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA (died in 2016 aged 57).

1959 : Mike Pence the 48th Vice President of the United States was born in Columbus, Indiana, USA.
