1961 : Simon Reeve, the Australian television presenter, was born in Perth, Western Australia.
1962 : The first of the Blackfriars Ships were discovered by archaeologist Peter Marsden. The ships dated back to the 2nd century AD, on the banks of the River Thames in London, in the Blackfriars area.
1970 : Cheyne Coates, the Australian singer-songwriter, was born April M Coates, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She is best known as the lead singer of Madison Avenue electronic music duo, with Andy Van Dorsselaer.
1990 : Tom Fogerty, the American musician, died aged 48 (born in 1941). He was best known as the rhythm guitarist for Creedence Clearwater Revival rock band.
1997 : The Funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales was held in London, with over 1 million people watching along the streets, and 2.5 billion people around the world watching on television.

2019 : Robert Mugabe, the 2nd President of Zimbabwe, died aged 95 (born in 1924).
2022 : Boris Johnson resigned as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and was replaced by Liz Truss.
