1641 : POCAHONTAS was married in Jamestown, Virginia, USA. Pocahontas was the daughter of the chief of the Powhatan Indian confederacy, married John Rolfe an English tobacco planter, which ensured peace between the Jamestown settlers and the Powhatan Indians for several years.
1700s / the 18th century on the 5th of April
1722 : Jacob Roggeveen the Dutch explorer discovered Easter Island.
1792 : George Washington the United States President exercised his authority to veto a bill, which was the first time this power was used in the United States.

1900 : The first large cache ever of Linear B tablets were discovered by archaeologists in Knossos, Crete. The large cache of clay tablets featured a syllabic script that was used for writing the earliest form of Greek, known as Mycenaean Greek.

1933 : U.S. citizens were stopped from hoarding gold when U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed 2 executive orders to establish the Civilian Conservation Corps, and “forbidding the Hoarding of Gold Coin, Gold Bullion, and Gold Certificates” by U.S. citizens.
1950 : Agnetha Fältskog the Swedish singer from ABBA was born in Jönköping, Sweden.
1956 : Fidel Castro declared himself at war with the Cuban President Fulgencio Batista, during the Cuban Revolution.
1976 : Howard Hughes the American business magnate died aged 70 (born in 1905).
1994 : Kurt Cobain the American frontman of Nirvana died from suicide aged 27 (born in 1967).
1998 : Akashi Kaikyō Bridge opened in Japan. It became the longest bridge span in the world.
