1715 : The TOTAL SOLAR ECLiPSE visible over northern Europe and northern Asia was predicted by astronomer Edmond Halley, within 4 minutes accuracy. He observed the eclipse from London, which he had drawn a predictive map showing the path of totality across the Kingdom of Great Britain.

1986 : Bomb exploded on Air Lanka Flight 512 at Colombo airport in Sri Lanka, killing 21 people, and injuring 41 people.
1999 : OKLAHOMA CiTY was hit by a F5 TORNADO, which killed 45 people, injured 665 people, and caused $1 billion in damage. The tornado was one of 66 during the 1999 Oklahoma tornado outbreak. This tornado produced one of the highest wind speeds ever recorded, at 484 +/- 32 km/h (301 +/- 20 mph).

2000 : The sport of GEOCACHING began, with the 1st cache placed by Dave Ulmer at Estacada in Oregon, with the GPS coordinates of 45°17.460′N 122°24.800′W which were posted on the Usenet newsgroup sci.geo.satellite-nav. 2007 : Madeleine McCann the 3 year old British girl disappeared in Praia da Luz, Portugal, which started the most heavily reported missing-person case in modern history.
2016 : WiLDFiRE in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada caused 88,000 people to evacuate their homes. Approximately 2,400 homes and buildings were destroyed.
