1822 : Ulysses S. Grant the 18th President of the United States was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio (died in 1885 aged 63).
1882 : Ralph WALDO Emerson best known as Waldo the American essayist and philosopher died aged 78 (born in 1803). He was also a lecturer, poet and abolitionist, leader of the transcendentalist movement, and champion of individualism. Waldo inspired many great writers.

He was the most successful lead singer of The Main Ingredient with 4 top 10 hit songs : “Everybody Plays the Fool” (1972), “Just Don’t Want to Be Lonely” (1974), “Happiness Is Just Around the Bend” (1974) and “Rolling Down a Mountainside” (1975).
1945 : Terry Willesee the Australian journalist and television host was born in Perth, Western Australia.
1951 : Ace Frehley the American guitarist and co-founder of Kiss was born in The Bronx, New York City, USA.
1954 : Mark Holden the Australian singer was born in Adelaide, South Australia.
1981 : The computer mouse was introduced by Xerox PARC.
1986 : The city of Pripyat and surrounding areas were evacuated due to the Chernobyl disaster.
1992 : The Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was proclaimed. It comprised of Serbia and Montenegro.
1992 : Betty Boothroyd became the 1st woman in 700 years to be elected Speaker of the British House of Commons.

2006 : Construction began on the Freedom Tower, which were later renamed One World Trade Center, in New York City, USA.
2007 : Israeli archaeologists discovered the tomb of Herod the Great in the south of Jerusalem.
2011 : Super Outbreak of 205 tornadoes devastated parts of the South-Eastern United States, killing more than 300 people. Most of the devastation was the states of Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Tennessee.
