1906 : The first Grand Prix motor race originally known as 1906 Grand Prix de l’Automobile Club de France, was held at Le Mans in northwestern France.
1927 : The Cyclone roller coaster opened on Coney Island, in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, USA.
1945 : The United Nations Charter was signed by 50 Allied nations in San Francisco, in California, USA.
1948 : U.S. began the BERLiN Airlift, when U.S. and British pilots began delivering food and supplies by airplane to Berlin after the city was isolated by a Soviet Union blockade. At the end of World War II in 1945, defeated Germany was divided into Soviet, American, British and French zones of occupation. The city of Berlin, located within the Soviet zone of occupation, was also split into four sectors, with the Allies taking the west of the city and the Soviets took the east. In June 1948, Josef Stalin’s government attempted to consolidate control of the city by cutting off all land and sea routes to West Berlin in order to pressure the Allies to evacuate. As a result, from June 24 the western section of Berlin containing 2 million people were deprived of food, heating fuel and other important supplies.

1961 : Terri Nunn the American singer-songwriter and actress was born in Baldwin Hills, California United States. She is best known as the lead singer of the band BERLiN. Official website : Berlinpage.com
1974 : The Universal Product Code was scanned for the first time, when a package of Wrigley’s chewing gum was scanned at the Marsh Supermarket in Troy, Ohio, USA.
1977 : ELViS Presley performed his FiNAL CONCERT, at Market Square Arena, in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. Nobody knew it was going to be his last performance at the time, until the news of his death from a heart attack 18 days later, on the 16th of August.
1978 : Air Canada Flight 189 crashed when it overrun the runway into the Etobicoke Creek ravine. The crash resulted in the deaths of 2 people of the 107 onboard the flight to Toronto.
1988 : The first fatal crash of an Airbus A320 occurred when Air France Flight 296 crashed at Mulhouse–Habsheim Airfield in Habsheim, France. The crash occurred in front of several thousand spectators, during an air show, and resulted in the death of 3 people of the 136 on board. Most of the people on board were journalists and raffle prize winners.
1991 : Dustin Martin the Australian rules footballer was born in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia.
1993 : ARiANA GRANDE the American singer and songwriter was born Ariana Grande-Butera in Boca Raton, Florida, USA. Official website : ArianaGrande.com
1997 : J. K. ROWLiNG published her 1st BOOK in the Harry Potter novel series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which has sold over 120 million copies.
2000s / 21st century history on the 26th of June
2012 : The Waldo Canyon fire destroyed 346 homes, and killed 2 people, in the Mountain Shadows neighbourhood in Colorado Springs, USA.
2015 : The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to get married under the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution.
2021 : Johnny Solinger the American singer-songwriter died from liver failure, aged 55 (born in 1965). He was best known as the lead vocalist of Skid Row from 1999 to 2015.
