1720 – Sweden and Prussia signed the Treaty of Stockholm. It was one of two treaties signed to end the Great Northern War.

1911 – The first Monte Carlo Rally took place. Albert I, Prince of Monaco commanded The Automobile Club de Monaco to start planning a car rally in 1909.

1925 – Albania declared itself a republic.

1931 – Sir Isaac Isaacs was sworn in as the first Australian-born Governor-General of Australia.

1954 – USS Nautilus, the first nuclear-powered submarine was launched by Mamie Eisenhower, the First Lady of USA, in Groton, Connecticut.

1960 – Little Joe 1B Mercury spacecraft was launched from Virginia with a monkey on board. Miss Sam the Rheses monkey survived the 8 minute flight from Wallops Island in good condition.

1960 – Avianca Flight 671 crashed and burned on landing at Montego Bay, Jamaica airport. 37 people died, and 9 people survived the crash.

1960 – A coal mine collapsed at Holly Country, South Africa, causing the death of 435 miners.

1968 – Vietnam War started with the Battle of Khe Sanh.

1971 – The Emley Moor transmitting station in the UK began transmitting UHF broadcasts. It is the tallest free-standing structure in the United Kingdom, with a total tower height of 330 metres (1084 feet). Google Street View

1976 – Commercial service of Concorde began with the commencement the London-Bahrain and Paris-Rio route.

1981 – DeLorean sports car production began began in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland.

1999 – The War on Drugs had one of the largest drug busts in American history when the United States Coast Guard intercepted a ship with cocaine on board, with a weight over 4,300 kilograms (9500 pounds).

2003 – 7.6 magnitude earthquake shook the state of Colima, in Mexico, and killed 29 people, and also caused approximately 10,000 homeless people.

2004 – The Mars Rover Spirit : NASA’s MER-A ceased communication with mission control. The problem was the management of its flash memory, but was later fixed remotely from Earth on 6th February.

2017 – A large-scale women’s march in over 400 cities around the World began on Donald Trump’s first day as President of the United States.

2018 – Rocket Lab’s Electron became the first rocket to reach orbit using an electric pump-fed engine.
