June 13th ~ This Day in History video by History.com ~ 1966 : The Miranda rights were established : The Supreme Court handed down its decision in Miranda v. Arizona on the 13th june 1966, establishing the principle that all criminal suspects must be advised of their rights before interrogation. This is now considered standard police procedure, “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can, and will, be used against you in court of law. You have the right to an attorney.
