1543 : King Henry VIII of England married Catherine Parr, his 6th and last wife, at Hampton Court Palace, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, London. Catherine Parr was the most-married English queen, with a total of marriages, and she was the first woman to publish under her own name in England (in English).

1776 : Captain James Cook started his 3rd and final voyage, on a the route from Plymouth via Cape Town and Tenerife to New Zealand and the Hawaiian Islands, and along the North American coast to the Bering Strait. Captain Cook was attacked and killed in 1779 during the exploratory voyage in the Pacific, on an island of Hawaii, Kalaniʻōpuʻu.
