2001 : The September 11 attacks : Two hijacked aircraft crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City. A third aircraft smashed into The Pentagon, in Arlington County, Virginia. And a fourth aircraft crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The series of 4 coordinated suicide attacks, by 19 members of al-Qaeda, resulted in the deaths of 2,996 people.

2007 : Russia tested the Father of All Bombs. the largest conventional weapon ever made.
