1700s / the 18th century on the 11th of March

1702 : The Daily Courant was published for the first time. It was England’s first national daily newspaper, and was published for 33 years until 1735, when it merged with the Daily Gazetteer.

1800s / the 19th century on the 11th of March

1861 : The Constitution of the Confederate States of America was adopted, during the American Civil War.

1864 : The Great Sheffield Flood in England killed 238 people.

1888 : The Great Blizzard of 1888 in the United States eastern seaboard killed over 400 people, and caused the shut down of commerce.

1900s / the 20th century on the 11th of March

1983 : Bob Hawke was appointed the Prime Minister of Australia.

1985 : Mikhail Gorbachev was elected to the position of General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, which made him the last head of state.

1990 : Lithuania was declared independent from the Soviet Union.

1997: Paul McCartney the English singer and musician was knighted. The former member of The Beatles became Sir Paul McCartney when he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II on the 11th March 1997, for his services to music, at the age of 54. Fans waited outside Buckingham Palace and screamed as Paul McCartney came through the gates in his chauffeur-driven limousine, and gave a thumbs-up.

2000s / the 21st century on the 11th of March

2004 : Madrid train bombings killed 191 people, when simultaneous explosions during the rush hour of trains in Madrid, Spain.

2006 : Michelle Bachelet was inaugurated as the first female president of Chile.

2010 : Lady Gaga and Beyoncé premiered their Telephone”  music video collaboration on E! News.

2011 : Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami hit 130 km east of Sendai in Japan. The earthquake measured  9.0 in magnitude and triggered a tsunami which killing thousands of people. It also triggered the second largest nuclear accident in world history, and was classified as a Level 7 on the International Nuclear Event Scale.

2021 : US President Joe Biden signed a $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan into law.
