1800s / the 19th century on the 10th of March

1831 : The FRENCH FOREiGN LEGiON (FFL) was created by the King of France, Louis Philippe. The French Foreign Legion is a military service branch of the French Army, with highly trained infantry soldiers known as Legionnaires. It is open to foreign recruits who are willing to serve in the French Armed Forces.

1876 – The first successful test of a telephone was made by Alexander Graham Bell.

1891 : Almon Strowger patented the Strowger switch, also known as a step-by-step switch (SXS) which was the first commercially successful electromechanical stepping switch telephone exchange system.

1900s / the 20th century on the 10th of March

1922 : MAHATMA GANDHi was ARRESTED in India, and tried for sedition. He was sentenced to 6 years in prison, and released approximately 2 years later for an appendicitis operation.

1933 – The Long Beach earthquake hit Greater Los Angeles, killing 108 people.

1969 – James Earl Ray pleaded guilty to assassinating Martin Luther King Jr.

1977 : The rings of URANUS were discovered by astronomers. it was long suspected that Uranus had rings, but the discovery was accidental while 3 astronomers were observing the atmosphere of Uranus, at NASA’s Kuiper Airborne Observatory.

2000s / the 21st century on the 10th of March

2000 : The DOT-COM bubble peaked when the NASDAQ Composite stock market index reached 5,048.62.

2006 – The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter arrived at Mars.

2019 – Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 Boeing 737 MAX crashed, which resulted in all 737 MAX aircraft to be grounded all over world.
