February 2020

Heston Blumenthal removed from MasterChef 2020 guest list

Heston Blumenthal, a regular guest on MasterChef, was scratched from 2020 season by Network 10, maybe due to an alleged multi-million dollar pay scandal, involving underpaid staff at a restaurant linked to him. The United Workers Union claimed that workers at Dinner by Heston at the Crown complex in Melbourne, were owed $4.5 million. Although the restaurant carries Heston’s name, he is not a part-owner. Network 10 hasn’t yet offered a reason to why they severed ties with Heston. This latest change is added to the shows already significant changes for 2020, with the departure of George Calombaris, Matt Preston, and Gary Mehigan (see more details down below).

A post shared by Larissa Takchi (@larissatakchi) on

Larissa Takchi was born and raised in Sydney. She has always enjoyed weekends with her big Lebanese family, having big lunches and dinners, with everyone bringing plates of food, which created her fondest memories.

Larissa finished high school in 2014, and then went onto Macquarie University where she is now studying a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She works as a restaurant manager at her mother’s restaurant in Sydney. Larissa  is mostly a self-taught chef, but admits her chef mother has always been there along the way to help out. Larissa is a fan of the works of Karen Martini, Yotam Ottolenghi, David Chang, Darren Purchese, and Gill Meller. She loves both sweet and savoury cooking, but she’s more experimental with sweet cooking, and more intuitive with savoury cooking.

Larissa is most practiced in cooking Lebanese inspired dishes, but considers herself an all-rounder in the kitchen, with also a flair for Asian, Italian, and French cuisine. She cites her favourite places to dine out as Sydney’s Automata, Firedoor and Kensington Street Social. Larissa’s family and partner Luke support her dreams of one day opening her own wine bar and restaurant, serving comforting yet sophisticated food with a seasonal menu.

2013 winner of series 5 ~ Emma Dean

35 year old town planner from Melbourne, Victoria

The first exclusive interview of Australia’s 2013 winner, Emma Dean ~ MasterChef Australia verified video (2013)

Emma Dean’s passion for food began as a child in the paddocks and kitchen of her home in regional Victoria, on a farm in Epsom, Victoria. Her parents encouraged her love of growing and cooking farm-fresh produce in her early years, by teaching her to knead bread, grow vegies, and collect freshly-laid eggs. Emma’s earliest memories were helping her Dad plant pumpkin seeds, to grow their own pumpkins. She later went on to study at Monash University and RMIT, completing a master’s degree in environment and planning, which resulted in an 8 year career in town planning for the Victorian State Government.

Emma also trained in track cycling at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, and represented Australia at the 2004 Oceania Track Cycling Championships. Her cooking style is inspired by her regional upbringing and her enthusiasm for urban foraging, which results in dishes that mix classic ingredients with the more unusual and adventurous. Emma lives in Northcote, an inner-city suburb of Melbourne.

Emma Dean’s MasterChef prize was $100,000, an Alfa Romeo car, a book publishing deal with New Holland Publishers, plus work experience in some of the country’s best kitchens. Her cookbook A Homegrown Table was released on the 1st December 2013.
